Going back before the Heavenly Bed, Four Seasons has been Recognized for beds, '' stated contract director of marketing and sales for Sealy, Leo Vogel. https://www.flickr.com/people/futonadvisors/

"Isadore Sharp, the c.e.o. [of Four Seasons], constantly emphasized that," Vogel said. "He said that at a great resort, you have to have great service, a excellent clean room, fantastic beds and a great shower. What we've seen is that consumers respond to this. By promoting the Heavenly Bed and now the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper, Starwood increased their occupancies and [average daily rates] and thus the most important thing."

For many years, the hotel sector chose futon mattresses based on price, according to Bob Malin, v.p. of merchandising and head of Serta's contract department.

"The less costly the mattress, the better for the hotels, Since they buy a lot of," Malin said. "There has been a major shift in the mattress industry in terms of contract bedding in the previous ten years. That is because resorts accomplished guest satisfaction is of primary significance, and the most precious thing they have to sell is a good night's sleep"

Hoteliers are realizing that people are demanding a mattress equal to or greater than the mattressthey have in the home, even when they are Traveling, stated Randy Loebig, v.p. of sales and promotion for Spring Air.

"For years and years, that was overlooked," Loebig said. "There was the mindset that when people traveled they arrived to the hotel, but spent the majority of their time out of their space doing or working actions. The comfort of the bed wasn't as critical. That is not the case, and what they are finding and doing so is taking the lead of what Starwood did. More and more other flags have taken steps to improve the high quality and relaxation of their futon mattresses that they have."

Malin said hotel operators want relaxation for guests, but Need futon mattresses that will endure. He pointed into Serta's Comfort Quilt, a quilting of convoluted foam and fiber at the cover of the mattress in the sleep surface, that he said gives guests a more restful sleep. A constant wire unit at the box spring leaves the bedding stronger.

Among Sealy's comfort attributes is its UniCased construction system.

"We utilize a polyolefin perimeter that is welded to a foundation That interacts very well with the the box spring," Vogel said. "It gives you a encased futon mattress so it has the structural integrity. If you are feeling that the side of the mattress, you don't feel the coils, you are feeling that the foam. It gives better support round the perimeter. When folks sit on the bed, they do not feel that the boundary wire. That is gone since the foam is there."

You can actually bend the mattress without Damaging it, making it more easy for installation, Vogel said.

Spring Air expanded its higher-end futon mattresses with more plush pillowtop and Euro-pillow-top designs. This helps cater to an aging population.

"If you look at the traveling people today, the baby boomer Generation has more leisure time and more disposable income and, because of their age, needs futon mattresses which are more adapting and more comfortable," Loebig said. "When you are younger, you can pretty much adapt to any sleep surface, but when you get older, it doesn't work that way."

Safety also is directing mattress technology. Regulations in California that take effect Jan. 1 demand retail mattresses and box springs manufactured for sale in California to be open-flame resistant. Prompted by California's Technical Bulletin 603, mattress manufacturers are developing new products for hotels. https://angel.co/luke-kane-2

Serta is incorporating open-flame immunity protection to all of its own Hospitality futon mattresses using a system named FireBlocker. The new mattresses currently are being used in certain resorts.

"We've made a commitment that every mattress which we manufacture for hospitality, Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, will possess the FireBlocker system, and that's not only in California, it is across the whole United States," Malin said. "Serta is going to the extra cost because we would like to provide a safer mattress"

The company also wants to be more proactive because a national law Likely will be passed shortly, he explained.

The eventuality of a federal fire code regular, probably in 2006, and environmental concerns are impacting product design at Sealy, '' Vogel said.

"I visit the ongoing evolution of better technologies as far As foams and fibers," he said. "If you look at what is available today in comparison to three decades ago, it's almost night and day."

Fire codes have also helped affect the trend toward One-sided mattress construction.

"What that Permits You to do is have a tighter match between The mattress and the box spring, and this can be important to the fire testing and the fire codes," Vogel said.

It also allows manufacturers to place more upholstery materials The side of the mattress that the guest sleeps on, which elevates the comfort levels, he added.

The ability to put more upholstery layers on one side rather Than either side also helps manufacturers to create more stable futon mattresses and avoid height issues.

"If you're constantly building up both sides of the futon Mattress, pretty soon you receive a mattress that is so thick you can't find sheets for this or it's so heavy you can not turn it over," Vogel said.

In the future, Malin jobs that mattresses will probably be thicker.

"When you Speak to hoteliers today, among those things They are considering is, 'How do I make my mattress seem plusher when guests walk into the room?'" He explained. "Among the things we are thinking about is how do we create the bed set appear thicker without creating problems for your sheets, dust ruffles and bedspreads."

Loebig said he thinks the plush look and feel Will Have the Ability to be Achieved with less thickness.

"We've sort of exhausted how big and thick we can Make mattresses," he explained. "We could still make mattresses comfortable, conforming and lavish, that feel wonderful but don't need to be quite as thick. I believe you are likely to see the start of the slimming down of mattresses. Just the practical side of this informs you that it is very hard for housekeeping to rotate the bed, or whether it's a two-sidedmattress, flip it. https://en.gravatar.com/futonadvisorszone

It's very hard to do because they're heavy."
