Generative AI Policy
J-MPI (Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam) recognizes the growing role of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in academic research and scholarly publishing, including research on Islamic education management, educational leadership, Islamic school management, school supervision, and innovation in educational management. AI tools may support manuscript preparation, language improvement, literature exploration, and data analysis. However, their use must not replace human intellectual contributions, critical judgment, methodological rigor, or academic responsibility.
J-MPI permits the responsible use of generative AI in accordance with the principles of academic integrity, transparency, research ethics, and scholarly accountability. The following policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use generative AI tools to assist with manuscript preparation, including language editing, improving readability, organizing ideas, and supporting literature exploration. AI-generated outputs must be critically evaluated, verified, and revised by the authors before inclusion in a manuscript.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts, including all references, research data, analytical procedures, interpretations, and conclusions. AI tools must not substitute for the authors' own scholarly analysis or be used to misrepresent research findings, theoretical arguments, or contributions to the field of Islamic education management.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must transparently disclose any substantive use of generative AI in preparing their manuscripts, specifying the name of the tool and the purpose of its use. Routine spelling, grammar, and punctuation correction does not generally require disclosure.
When generative AI forms part of the research design, data collection, data processing, or analytical methodology, its use must be explicitly described in the Methods section. Authors must explain the role of the AI tool, how its outputs were evaluated, and any relevant limitations to ensure methodological transparency and research reproducibility.
3. AI Authorship
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to or published in J-MPI. Authorship is reserved for individuals who make genuine intellectual contributions to the research and can take responsibility for the integrity of the work.
Authors must ensure that all individuals listed as authors meet appropriate authorship criteria and that the use of AI does not obscure human contributions or accountability.
4. Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors
Reviewers and editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all related editorial communications. Unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, author information, and other confidential materials must not be uploaded to external AI platforms when doing so could compromise confidentiality, privacy, copyright, or intellectual property.
AI tools may be used for limited administrative or language-related assistance where appropriate and consistent with confidentiality requirements. However, AI must not replace independent scholarly assessment, the critical evaluation of research methodology and findings, or editorial decision-making. Reviewers and editors remain personally responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and integrity of their evaluations and decisions.
5. Research Integrity, Ethics, and Data Protection
The use of generative AI must comply with accepted standards of research integrity and publication ethics. AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, generate fictitious references, manipulate findings, conceal plagiarism, or misrepresent sources and evidence.
Particular care must be taken when AI is used in research involving educational institutions, teachers, students, school leaders, and other research participants. Authors must protect personal data, maintain confidentiality, obtain appropriate permissions and informed consent where required, and comply with applicable research ethics standards.
Authors are also responsible for respecting copyright, licensing requirements, and intellectual property rights when using AI-generated or AI-assisted materials.
6. Human Oversight and Accountability
All authors, reviewers, and editors remain accountable for their respective contributions to the scholarly publishing process. Authors must ensure that AI-assisted content is accurate, appropriately referenced, methodologically sound, and consistent with the objectives and scope of J-MPI.
The editorial team reserves the right to request clarification or disclosure regarding the use of AI when necessary. Undisclosed or irresponsible AI use, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other violations of research integrity may result in editorial action, including manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction of a published article, in accordance with J-MPI's publication ethics policies.
Through this policy, J-MPI seeks to encourage the responsible use of emerging technologies while safeguarding the credibility, originality, and scholarly quality of research in Islamic education management.
