Abstract

Background: Hydrocephalus is the most common complication in patients with (Intraventricular Hemorrhage) IVH. Increasing intracranial pressure is generally followed by a decrease in neurological function eventually elevate the risk of brain herniation. Uncontrolled hypertension is still the most common risk factor for the incidence of IVH. Diagnosis was made through comprehensive methods as well as emergency management and multidisciplinary care improve patient outcomes significantly. Case Report: An 80 year old female patient came to the Emergency Room with the chief complaint of headache and decreased motor function of all extremities with complications of hydrocephalus. The patient underwent a VP shunt procedure and found improvement in motor function after 1 days of treatment. This case report show beneficial of post VP shunt placement with significant improvement in motor function. Conclusion: Patients with hemorrhagic stroke, especially IVH and SAH, tend to be at high risk of developing hydrocephalus. Diagnosis is made through anamnesis to find a history of complaints and risk factors, physical examination to look for neurological lesions and radiological imaging to get a picture of the brain damage that has occurred.
