Nangkula Utaberta is an International Writer, Associate Professor and Researcher who has written 26 academic research books of Architecture in Malaysia. Nangkula obtained his Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Architecture degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Johor Bahru as the Best Master and PhD Graduate of Architecture in 2005 and 2009. Currently he is a Research Fellow at Halal Product Research Institute (IPPH). Before joining this university, he served as Director of Research Development Centre (RDC), Linton University College, Associate Professor at Faculty of Design and Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (2012-2018). Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at National University of Malaysia-UKM (2009-2012), Deputy Dean and founder of School of Architecture and Design at Legenda Education Group (2006-2009) and lecturer at SPACE program, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and University of Indonesia. Nangkula was once visiting Lecturer at the State Islamic University of Malang (UIN Malang-2009) and University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS-2005). He is also an Associate Research Fellow at various Centers of Excellence in Malaysia and Indonesia including the Honorary Advisor at Relife Green Development, Expert Committee of the National Heritage Department of Malaysia, Senior Advisor at Center for Islamic Architecture (Islamic State University of Malang), Center for Indonesian Reform and Center for Islamic Architecture Studies (Muhamadiyah University of Surakarta). When joining Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Nangkula has received the Excellent Staff Award for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He has founded the Cultural Heritage and Islamic Design (WARIS) Research Group since 2013 which was selected in 2017 as the Best Research Group at UPM. Nangkula also succeeded in developing one of the first "Islamic Architecture" of Putra Massive Online and Open Learning (PutraMOOC) courses in Malaysia. Nangkula is an important liaison person who initiated the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UPM and several universities in Indonesia including bridging the entry of many Indonesian students in UPM. Together with the WARIS Research Group, Nangkula is a professional architect for many community and industry projects in Malaysia, Southeast Asia and Europe such as the Kuala Lumpur Indonesian School Building, "Free Mosque Design" in Kelantan, Sabah, Sarawak, Jakarta, Aceh, Eindhoven, Vienna and Utrecht at Europe. He also one of the important architect at the Islamic Municipal Projects in Maros, Makassar. Nangkula also widely asked to provide advisory services for research and postgraduate development at public and private universities in Indonesia and Malaysia. In Book Writing, Nangkula is the recipient of the National Book of Malaysia Award for Academic, General and Creative Books for three years in 2014, 2015 and 2017 awarded by Prime Minister of Malaysia and Sultan (king) of Selangor. He is a passionate academician and is often asked to give keynote lecture on Mosque design and Islamic Architecture in many conferences, seminars and symposia in Indonesia, Malaysia and various countries in Asia and Europe. He is also involved in several interdisciplinary and industrial research projects since 2010, bringing him the High Impact Industry and Community Award from the UPM Vice-Chancellor for the Design of Indonesian School of Kuala Lumpur in 2016.
