Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is an essential model for J-PAI: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam. J-PAI is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and research integrity. All parties involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to uphold principles of integrity, transparency, fairness, confidentiality, and accountability.
Publication Decisions
The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published. Publication decisions are based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, and compliance with the journal's policies. Editors may consult reviewers and other editorial advisers when making decisions. Editors must not make decisions based on the authors' race, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, institutional affiliation, political views, or other irrelevant personal characteristics.
Fair Play and Editorial Independence
Editors shall evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly according to their scholarly content. The editorial process shall be conducted independently and without discrimination. Editors must avoid conflicts of interest that could influence editorial decisions.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must keep submitted manuscripts and related information confidential. Manuscripts must not be disclosed to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and publisher, as appropriate. Unpublished information or ideas obtained through the editorial process must not be used for personal or professional advantage without the author's permission.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors, reviewers, and authors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or editorial process. Individuals with relevant conflicts of interest should withdraw from the related editorial or review process where appropriate.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making publication decisions and helps authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.
Promptness
Reviewers who are not qualified to review a manuscript or cannot complete the review within the required time should promptly inform the editor and decline the review.
Confidentiality
Reviewers must treat manuscripts and review materials as confidential documents and must not share or discuss them with others without authorization from the editor.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively, constructively, and respectfully. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear and evidence-based comments.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited and notify the editor of substantial similarity or overlap with other published works of which they are aware.
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must decline assignments where personal, professional, financial, competitive, collaborative, or other relationships may compromise their impartiality.
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards
Authors must present their research accurately and objectively and provide sufficient information to allow appropriate evaluation and, where applicable, replication. Fabricated or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical conduct.
Data Access and Retention
Authors should retain research data and supporting materials for a reasonable period and provide them to the editor when reasonably required for verification, subject to ethical, legal, privacy, and confidentiality requirements.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must submit original work and appropriately acknowledge and cite the work of others. Plagiarism, including substantial unattributed use of text, ideas, data, images, or other materials, is unacceptable.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal or publish substantially overlapping research without appropriate disclosure and justification.
Authorship and Contribution
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the work and who approve the final version and accept responsibility for their contributions. Individuals who contribute to the work but do not qualify for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors have approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors must properly acknowledge all sources that have significantly influenced the research and accurately cite supporting literature.
Funding and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose relevant financial or non-financial conflicts of interest and all sources of financial or other substantive support for the research.
Research and Publication Misconduct
J-PAI considers the following to constitute potential research or publication misconduct: plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, manipulation of data or images, duplicate or redundant publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, manipulation of the peer-review process, and other forms of dishonest or unethical publication practice.
When allegations of misconduct arise, the journal may request clarification or supporting evidence from the authors and may consult reviewers, editors, institutions, or other relevant parties. Where appropriate, the journal may take corrective action, including rejection, correction, expression of concern, or retraction.
Ethical Oversight
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical standards and legal requirements. Where relevant, manuscripts involving human participants, personal or sensitive data, vulnerable groups, or other ethically regulated research should provide appropriate information regarding ethical approval, informed consent, and protection of participants' rights and privacy.
Complaints and Appeals
Authors and other stakeholders may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions, peer review, publication procedures, or alleged breaches of publication ethics. Complaints and appeals will be handled fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with the journal's editorial policies. Where necessary, the journal may seek independent advice or refer matters to the appropriate institution or authority.
Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern
J-PAI will correct the scholarly record when significant errors are identified. Corrections will be published transparently and linked to the original article where appropriate.
A published article may be retracted when serious errors, misconduct, or other circumstances substantially invalidate its findings or integrity. When there are serious unresolved concerns about the reliability or integrity of a published article, the journal may issue an Expression of Concern while an investigation is ongoing.
Authors are expected to promptly inform the journal when they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work and to cooperate with the journal in correcting the record.
Post-Publication Discussion
J-PAI supports responsible post-publication discussion and welcomes substantive comments, corrections, or concerns regarding published articles. Such communications will be assessed by the editorial team and, where appropriate, may be discussed with the authors or independent experts.
Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI
J-PAI requires the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI in manuscript preparation, peer review, and editorial processes. Authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial staff must comply with the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, including requirements concerning disclosure, human accountability, accuracy, originality, and confidentiality.
Human Accountability and Research Integrity
All authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial staff are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly publishing process. J-PAI is committed to investigating ethical concerns fairly and taking appropriate action to protect the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the published academic record.
Screening Plagiarism Policy
All articles submitted will be screened for plagiarism by Turnitin.
