Plagiarism Policy
The Editorial Board of CAUCHY: Jurnal Matematika Murni dan Aplikasi upholds strict standards regarding research integrity and clearly states that plagiarism in any form is unacceptable. The following policy outlines actions that will be taken when plagiarism is identified in a submitted manuscript.
Definition:
Plagiarism is defined as the use or close imitation of another author's language, ideas, or work without proper acknowledgment, and presenting them as one’s own original contribution.
General Policy:
All submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Any content reproduced verbatim must be clearly distinguished from the original manuscript text through indentation, quotation marks, and explicit citation of the source.
Reproduction of text exceeding fair use (defined here as more than 2–3 sentences or equivalent), or any graphical content from another source, must be accompanied by proper acknowledgment and permission from the copyright holder and, where possible, the original author.
In the event that plagiarism is detected, the Editor-in-Chief will determine the appropriate action based on the severity of the case, as categorized below:
Plagiarism Levels and Actions:
- Minor: Small portions of another work are copied without significant ideas or data being taken.
Action: Authors receive a warning and are asked to revise the manuscript with proper citation. - Intermediate: A substantial portion is plagiarized without attribution.
Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are barred from submitting to the journal for one year. - Severe: Extensive plagiarism involving original results or ideas from other works.
Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are banned from submission for five years.
All listed authors share equal responsibility for the contents of their submission, as affirmed in the signed copyright transfer agreement. Any penalties due to plagiarism will apply to all co-authors.
In cases of repeated plagiarism by the same author(s), the Editorial Board, under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief, may impose a permanent submission ban.
This policy also applies to self-plagiarism or reuse of previously published material by the same authors. Any reused content—text, tables, or figures—must be clearly marked and properly cited. For review or tutorial papers, where previously published content may be included, the sources must be identified, and permissions obtained where necessary.
If a manuscript under review or already published in CAUCHY is found to significantly overlap with another manuscript (submitted or published elsewhere), it will be treated as a case of severe plagiarism. Significant overlap is defined as reuse of 50% or more of the manuscript content. Overlap of 10–50% will be considered intermediate, unless limited to the methods section, in which case it is treated as minor.
Authors may reuse portions of their prior work to support the presentation of new findings, but they must clearly indicate what is reused and what is novel. Any such content requires citation and permission from the original publisher.
If a manuscript is derived from a previously published conference paper (in original or extended form), the name, date, and details of the conference must be disclosed, and republishing permission must be obtained. The Editor may decide not to accept such submissions.
Authors are allowed to incorporate material from unpublished presentations, including visual aids, into a journal submission. For manuscripts that are translations of previously published work, the original title, journal, date, and copyright must be disclosed. Translations may be accepted to broaden access to valuable work.
In exceptional cases, the Editor may approve republication of previously published works (e.g., historical articles) with full acknowledgment of the original source and appropriate permissions.
The Layout Editor maintains a list of authors with plagiarism-related sanctions and verifies each submission against this list. If a banned author is detected, the Layout Editor will inform the Editor-in-Chief for further action.
This policy is publicly available on the journal website and is sent to authors along with manuscript submission confirmation. A statement acknowledging this policy is also included in the copyright transfer form.
