Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statements

EL DINAR: Jurnal Keuangan dan Perbankan Syariah is a peer-reviewed academic journal published twice a year (April-September and October-March). The journal is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. EL DINAR strictly adheres to the Core Practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Ensuring ethical behavior among all parties involved in the publication process including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher is essential for maintaining academic rigor, public trust, and transparency in Islamic finance and banking scholarship.

I. CORE ETHICAL POLICIES (COPE FRAMEWORK)

1. Allegations of Misconduct

EL DINAR takes all allegations of research misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, inappropriate authorship, and duplicate submission, with the utmost seriousness. The Editorial Board will promptly investigate allegations brought by readers, reviewers, or whistleblowers, adhering strictly to COPE flowcharts during the investigation and resolution processes.

2. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship must be restricted to individuals who have made significant intellectual contributions to the research concept, study design, data collection, financial modeling, or analysis and interpretation of results. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission. Individuals who participated in technical support or administrative funding should be listed in an Acknowledgments section rather than as authors.

3. Complaints and Appeals

EL DINAR maintains a fair and transparent system for managing complaints against the journal, editorial team, reviewers, or publisher. Authors wishing to appeal editorial decisions or lodge complaints regarding the review process may contact the Editor-in-Chief directly via eldinar@uin-malang.ac.id. Appeals must be supported by clear written arguments and evidence.

4. Conflicts of Interest / Competing Interests

All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any potential financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that could influence or bias the research outcomes, editorial evaluations, or review decisions. Authors must include a clear disclosure statement in their manuscript regarding any financial support or institutional funding received.

5. Data Integrity and Reproducibility in Islamic Finance Research

Given the empirical and quantitative nature of financial and banking studies, EL DINAR requires authors to present accurate research data (e.g., financial ratios, market data, survey results, and econometric models). Authors must be prepared to provide raw research data upon request by editors or reviewers to ensure data validation and research reproducibility. Data fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of financial figures constitutes severe ethical misconduct.

6. Ethical Oversight

The journal ensures ethical conduct in research concerning human participants (e.g., banking consumer surveys, field research on microfinance institutions, or Islamic philanthropic organizations). Research must obtain necessary institutional ethical clearance and informed consent from participants. Furthermore, research on Islamic banking products must comply with standard Sharia and regulatory compliance frameworks.

7. Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Plagiarism

EL DINAR is committed to protecting intellectual property and preventing plagiarism. All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin prior to peer review. Manuscripts exhibiting excessive similarity or uncredited borrowing of ideas and text will be rejected immediately.

8. Journal Management and Infrastructure

The journal operates under a transparent organizational structure powered by Open Journal Systems (OJS). Manuscripts are submitted and tracked securely. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to maintain citation accuracy.

9. Peer Review Process

EL DINAR implements a rigorous double-blind peer-review system, where the identities of both authors and reviewers remain mutually anonymous. Every manuscript is evaluated by a minimum of two independent experts in Islamic finance, banking, economics, or related disciplines to ensure objectivity and scientific quality.

10. Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

EL DINAR supports scientific dialogue. Readers and scholars may submit formal letters to the editor or comments regarding published articles. When errors or inaccuracies are identified post-publication, the journal will issue formal Corrigenda (author errors), Errata (publisher errors), or Retractions in accordance with COPE guidelines.

11. Archiving Policy

To guarantee long-term digital preservation and permanent access to published content, EL DINAR participates in digital archiving networks including the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and national repositories such as Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital).

12. Open Access and Licensing Policy

EL DINAR is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are freely available to readers immediately upon publication without subscription fees. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), allowing readers to read, download, copy, distribute, and build upon the work, provided appropriate credit is given and derivative works are distributed under the same license.

II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOURNAL ACTORS

 Duties of Editors

  • Publication Decisions: The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for deciding which submitted articles will be published based on scientific merit, relevance to Islamic finance and banking, review outcomes, and legal compliance regarding copyright and plagiarism.
  • Fair Play & Non-Discrimination: Editors evaluate manuscripts purely for their scientific content without regard to race, gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religious belief, or political orientation of the authors.
  • Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any details about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, assigned reviewers, and publisher.
  • Conflict Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from processing manuscripts in which they have competing interests resulting from collaborative or competitive relationships with authors.
