Abstract

This study investigates the contemplative function of Andalusian poetry through psychological interpretation, focusing on how poetic language expresses inner experiences, emotional conflicts, and reflections on human existence. Employing a psychoanalytic literary approach, the study examines selected poems by Andalusian poets to identify the relationship between subjective experience, psychological structures, and contemplative meaning. The findings reveal three interconnected dimensions of the contemplative function. First, poetic language transforms personal experiences, such as grief, separation, longing, and social adversity, into expressive images that communicate the poet’s inner emotional state. Second, the psychological dimensions underlying the poems are manifested through emotional intensity, internal conflict, anxiety, frustration, nostalgia, and the tension between past experiences and present circumstances. Third, the contemplative dimension enables poets to move beyond immediate personal suffering toward broader reflections on the transience of life, the passage of time, human vulnerability, and the inevitability of death. The analysis further demonstrates that carefully selected words, symbolic imagery, and emotionally charged expressions are not merely stylistic devices; they function as essential mechanisms for revealing psychological depth and shaping readers’ emotional and intellectual responses. These findings establish that the contemplative function in Andalusian poetry emerges from the interaction between lived experience, psychological expression, and reflective interpretation. The study therefore highlights the significance of psychological analysis in understanding how Andalusian poets transform individual experiences into literary expressions with broader existential and human significance.
