Abstract

The research seeks to re-read the phenomenon of ellipsis through a syntactic-pragmatic lens, combining the data of heritage with the insights of modern linguistic study. This is an attempt to highlight the vitality and theoretical depth of Arabic grammatical thought, and the significance of the phenomenon of ellipsis in Arabic grammar. This is achieved by studying ellipsis in the book 'Al-Iqlid Sharh Al-Mufassal', whether it is the ellipsis of a verb, a noun, or restriction to a particle. This does not merely represent a reduction or abbreviation of words, but rather a linguistic style that contributes to enhancing the effectiveness of actual communication between speakers. The study will also shed light on the different methodologies Al-Jundi followed in analyzing this phenomenon, and how his perspective was related to the historical and cultural context of his era. It will attempt to prove that this phenomenon not only existed in ancient times but continues to be used in contemporary Arabic, and even in various dialects. Studying ellipsis is not only necessary for understanding Arabic grammar as a science, but also for comprehensively understanding Arab culture and linguistic identity.
