Madrasah Uthmaniyah Smart Tahfiz (MUST) Students’ Perceptions of Arabic Vocabulary Acquisition through the Communicative Use-Based Strategy (CU-BS) and Its Impact on the Artificial Linguistic Environment/ تصورات طلبة المدرسة العثمانية للتحفيظ الذكي حول اكتساب المفردات العربية من خلال استراتيجية التعلّم التواصلي القائم على الاستخدام وأثرها على البيئة اللغوية المصطنعة
Abstract
The research problem stems from the continued reliance in some instructional practices on rote memorization of vocabulary without meaningful communicative use, which limits the transfer of lexical knowledge into actual language performance. This study aimed to explore the perceptions of students at Madrasah Uthmaniyah Smart Tahfiz (MUST) regarding the acquisition of Arabic vocabulary in light of the Communicative Use-Based Strategy (CU-BS), and to examine the impact of the artificial linguistic environment on enhancing the effectiveness of this strategy. The study adopted a correlational–explanatory design and employed a validated questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale, with its validity and reliability statistically established. The findings indicated that both the implementation of CU-BS and the influence of the linguistic environment were at a moderate-to-high level, with teacher modeling and direct interaction emerging as significant supportive factors in vocabulary acquisition. The study concludes that the linguistic environment at MUST provides a supportive context for the application of CU-BS; however, expanding sustained communicative use of vocabulary within and beyond the classroom would further enhance its effectiveness and long-term impact.
