Generative AI Policy
The Journal of English Language Teaching and Learning (JETLE) recognizes the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in academic research and scholarly publishing. AI tools may assist with manuscript preparation, language improvement, and literature exploration, but they must not replace human intellectual contributions, critical judgment, or academic responsibility.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools to support manuscript preparation. However, all AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed and verified. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, references, data, interpretations, and conclusions presented in their manuscripts.
2. AI Disclosure
Authors must disclose any substantive use of generative AI, including the tool used and its purpose. Basic spelling and grammar correction generally does not require disclosure. When AI is used as part of the research methodology, its application must be explained in the Methods section.
3. AI Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship and accountability must remain with the human researchers who contribute to and take responsibility for the work.
4. Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors
Reviewers and editors must protect manuscript confidentiality and must not upload unpublished manuscripts or confidential materials to AI platforms when this may compromise privacy or intellectual property. AI may support limited administrative or language-related tasks but must not replace independent scholarly evaluation or editorial decision-making.
5. Research Integrity and Data Protection
AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, invent references, conceal plagiarism, or manipulate research evidence. Authors must also protect personal information, confidential materials, copyright, and intellectual property when using AI tools.
6. Human Oversight and Accountability
All authors, reviewers, and editors remain responsible for maintaining academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and scholarly quality. Misuse of AI may result in editorial action, including rejection, correction, or retraction, in accordance with JETLE's publication ethics policies.
